wow really? stoke rods and pistons too?, I know of a couple 500+ hp ej20's stock internals in the UK

Lunchie are you comparing the suitability of NA engines to handle boost compared to engines designed to handle boost from the factory? Of course an engine not designed for boost is going to be less suitable for boost than a boosted engine.

Shit so much boost my head hurts.

Modern (2000+ single turbo) 2ltr ej20's are pretty reliable and no less economic than any other 90's 2ltr turbo.


Ummm.... an EJ20 designed with a turbo in mind isn't quite the same as a 2L N/A designed with fuel efficiency in mind, and then throwing a turbo on it.

Some people consider stock as in bore/stroke/ other internal strengthening

Also yes I know I am comparing apples and gorillas, I was more just asking Phil to elaborate on what he meant by the strength of the new subaru engines and defending the newer ej20's, should have made it clear they were two separate points.

Fairly pointless but I like playing devils advocate sometimes.

Stock block = no mods to the block. Forged rods and pistons even with stock bore size /= stock block.

An N/A FA20 probably is stronger than an N/A EJ20.

Didn't know that's what was the accepted explanation of stock block was, cheers for the info :)

Actually...... I prefer my high compression stock Nissan VQ35 engine (with a bar of boost up it's arse), than my Cosworth VQ35 (with a bar of boost up it's arse) even with the Cosworth's 50 more whp. Throttle response and spool is better in a high compression engine with short duration cams.
And the stocker has been more reliable (Cosworth bearings don't like the slightest loss of oil pressure), the only issue being the rings/pistons aren't designed for boost, as such there is a reasonable amount of blowby.

Doesn't surprise me.

You take a highly focused athlete such as a long distance runner and they will be far more susceptible to muscle injury than your average joe blogs.

High performance usually = highly strung regardless of the application.

I remember driving a mates r33 GTS+T and its higher factory comp made it much nicer to drive off boost than a normal factory boosted 90's turbo

Spotted the new BRZ GT parked across the road at Rob Maetzig's place, looks great in blue. That guy gets to test some sweet cars, had the new M6 last month.

I really enjoy driving mine. No plans to get more power out of it either.
Is hugely entertaining. Just better rubber on it.

Making it faster would only increase the resulting accidents there would inevitably be.....

Mark I have no doubt that TRD will be drafting a whole lot of aftermarket parts for this car going off this Griffon project much like they have with the CCSR ISF car.If I was an 86 owner I'd be having a huge smile on my face.

Gotta love the CEO of Toyota and his love of racing as almost every car that seems to be a flag ship in its market gets the motor-sport treatment.I'm loving this guys thought process and hence why I still don't get why the first place people attack is under the bonnet.

Ultimately I absolutely love this car, especially hunting down Skylines around the corners (just to be smoked on the straights lol). But seriously, I love a car that I can drive at 100% all of the time!
