yup been saying this for ages... LVV have gone too far and it needs to be abolished.

A simple log book type of thing that has an engineer stamp it, then enter it onto an online system similar to the wof system would be suffice, you could then have an 'update' charge which is negligible for any small changes and still have an inital cert which checks everything.

I'm with tsoob on this one, I get the initial inspection cost to get the car certed for the first time but paying $500 again even for a small change(e.g $50 spacers) is insane.
Also the hassle of waiting for the cert plate to be made and a time organised for it to be fitted will mean the car is off the road for even longer.
I'd much prefer a logbook style system or even a card type system which stores all mods online.

Looks like its going to be more hassle than its worth :(

Car is currently sitting on R32 gts-t rims 16x6.5
I quite like the style, but am unsure whether to find a pair of matching 8" GTR rims for the rear, put on the 17x8's I have in the garage, or go for a staggered 17" set up in the future.

Reeeally don't want to have to be stuck with just the one choice.
$500 is a bit excessive to look at something that wouldnt even get a 2nd look normally in a $40 WOF check.
Didn't realise it had gotten so pedantic over the years :?

Doesn't matter what size you cert on, you are still stuck with them until a new cert. Can cert for two wheel sizes though, may cost a bit more as they have to perform all their tests and measurements on both wheel sizes.

If you cert with aftermarket rims: IE: 18x8, 18x9 on your car, then you're stuck with that forever.

If you cert with stock rims, you can go +5% as set on the legal guide lines as if your car is uncerted.

A point that was pointed out to me by Fraser Cars when I was doing my cert, I asked him "that means I should've certed it with factory rims?"

and he said "yeap"
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

How pedantic would they be over stock 14s vs stock 15s?

Also is that 5% the total rolling diameter inclusive of tyres or just the rim?

Unless you're rolling around on your bare rims, it includes tyre too.

It could be worse, they could ban some / all modifications like some places in Australia.

Least hassle is running car without items that require cert. If you need to be running adjustable suspension (which you can't adjust the height piss all anyway), then perhaps the car isn't built for the street anyway. If I wanted a car to handle well and it was a road car i'd just pick and choose an appropriate spring / shock setup.

Means you could go from the stock 15x7 with 225/50R15s to 255/35R18s and still be within 5%.

Got anything in writing to support that? Because I've heard that myth before. Once certed your car MUST match what it was certed for.
Some of the people whinging about the cert rules might want to compare them to other countries and also do a bit of research on what actually went on in the 90's and where we could have ended up instead.

If you do find something that disproves that claim, please do let me know, I don't want to be stuck with that size until I do yet another size.

Id like to see you get 9.5s on a silvia without coilovers (all around with low offset)

Does anyone else remember when people fitted adjustable suspension to get better suspension performance rather than to make room for wheels that technically don't fit their cars.

A cert is a cert, ask on the LVVTA forum if you want but car must always match the cert plate factory wheels or not.

That size wheel on a Silvia is likely to breach other cert thresholds anyway.
