I had a friend that had the same problem with his RX8, wouldnt restart if still hot after a run. Eventually after a long fight he got a complete engine rebuild under warranty. Hopefully your car isnt that bad.

Eventually got it home and checked it over, coilpacks are the "old" part number (turns out they weren't replaced at all - still have the date/mileage of last replacement on them). Rang Mazda and asked why the coilpacks I got charged for didn't make their way into my car - got the run around until eventually lots of abuse in their direction resulted in an admission of fault and a refund.
So I've bought brand new coilpacks which should be here tomorrow so I'll throw them in and see if it works again. Towards the end it wouldn't start/run at all and sounded horrible.
Because petrol and lubricating oil go into the same place it's important to have good spark. Bad coils = weak spark = unburned fuel diluting the lubricating oil = no/less lubrication. This has been going on for 6 months so I'm not holding out much hope tbh. Best case it needs a rebuild sooner than it did before.
