Actually picked up an ae82 fxgt for a new daily driver, needs a few parts fitted to it, Got an engine bay loom from another ae82 (4ae 8v sohc injected 8O ), started to configure wiring to work in the fxgt dash, interior etc.

Paid an auto sparky to find out why my brakelights fuse keept blowing as brake lights are handy in Auckland traffic.
i don't club seals..... only sandwiches

thats true, indicators only have to work once every 6 months though :P

Found out the bubbles above the windscreen arnt as bad as everyone was thinking. Will only need one small patch and some TLC to the rest

Sounds like I'll find out tomorrow if my RX8 is dead or whether I got lucky. Been painful not having it going :(
Oh and my RB30 crank is bent. Yay.

What happened to your RX8?

that even happens? (re: bent crank)

adjusted carby a bit. i dont know my way around a carby yet but it seems to idle a bit better.

Cranks tend to bend when bearings get quite worn. Silvertops are good for it.

Long story: when I bought the RX8 I had a list of jobs that I wanted done before I took delivery of the car. One of them was replacing all the coilpacks since they commonly go and can take the engine with them. Mazda has released updated coilpacks to try and get around this issue. It was at the Mazda dealership for a week/$2k bill before I had even driven it for longer than a test drive :lol:

Fast forward 6 months/2000kms and I was in town last week. Pulled over, ran across the road for 30 secs, came back and it wouldn't start. Had very weak spark. Got it started 2hours later and drove it to the gas station to grab some fuel and head home - repeat of prior experience.

Eventually got it home and checked it over, coilpacks are the "old" part number (turns out they weren't replaced at all - still have the date/mileage of last replacement on them). Rang Mazda and asked why the coilpacks I got charged for didn't make their way into my car - got the run around until eventually lots of abuse in their direction resulted in an admission of fault and a refund.

So I've bought brand new coilpacks which should be here tomorrow so I'll throw them in and see if it works again. Towards the end it wouldn't start/run at all and sounded horrible.

Because petrol and lubricating oil go into the same place it's important to have good spark. Bad coils = weak spark = unburned fuel diluting the lubricating oil = no/less lubrication. This has been going on for 6 months so I'm not holding out much hope tbh. Best case it needs a rebuild sooner than it did before.

I had a friend that had the same problem with his RX8, wouldnt restart if still hot after a run. Eventually after a long fight he got a complete engine rebuild under warranty. Hopefully your car isnt that bad.

Isn't that just a 'feature' of Rotaries? I.e. you are supposed to give a good rev and shut down otherwise they are hard to hot-start?

If engine is dead I say mazda would be up for it due to them not installing the new coils because lack of preventive maintenance caused it

But depends how much you cbf to fight them over it

Disconnected the wide band O2 sensor and took it out.

How or what do you clean these things with?

Will re calibrate it first and check for error codes.
