Diff servicing/rebuild Auckland

Postby theDiff » Sat Dec 28, 2013 10:52 pm

So I think my Runx Z diff needs some love - still getting a bad wurrrrring noise on deceleration in 4th/5th/6th gear. From what I have researched it could be the pinion bearing or perhaps another bearing in the diff. I know it's not the tranny or clutch or pulleys because they have all be checked/replaced. So it has to be the diff. Anyone know any good Auckland specialists?

Nope - it's not a bearing issue. All bearings have been replaced (not cheap) and the noise remained. But the chaps at Gearbox Factory figured it out!

I got the car with a heavy duty clutch that had a solid brass center (previous owner installed it for whatever reason) and unknown to him, when installing a clutch of this type in certain vehicles, there can be an increase in transferred harmonic noises from the engine to the gearbox. This may also cause gearbox rattle - particularly on decel.

These transmitted noises in no way affect the performance of the clutch or the vehicle, and is widely accepted in the performance industry, where engine and/or clutch modifications have been carried out. So there you go!

I'm getting a heavy duty center with duel springs put into the OEM clutch which will make it much quieter.

I have struck that too with solid centre clutches, that's why I asked.

Glad to know it was not diff issue.

What solution did you come up with that worked - if anything?

It's come up on here a couple of times and OEM clutch has removed the noise.

I put an OEM in and it did nothing so the gear box factory lads put a heavy duty plate in and they believe it's worked. Horses for courses I guess.
