It's a tough one this as it is really tough to over come the AWD advantage the GTR has over the Supra so when you talk performance the above is huge grip is everything.

Up to a certain HP level the Supra a can compete on a fairly level footing with the GTR but once you start throwing HP at these cars the advantage widen's.

To be honest Toyota could build a car as good they'd have to go down the line of the LFA & 86 though and go for a more rewarding drivers car than a car loaded up with electronic wizardry though.

yes being competitive with GTR at that price point is probably not in the toyota DNA is it.

i think points of difference would be the way to go. old fashioned manual, more interesting engine note (8 cylinders plus please) RWD only, etc. like you say, a really engaging sports tourer. targa tops a must, haha.

The Z/Fairlady was always the competition I thought.

Mk1 and S130 were both out in 1978.
Mk2 and Z31 were both early 1980s.

JZA70s came in about the same as the Z32s (Comparing JZA70 rather than all Mk3s as the engine tech was a fairly big jump on both Nissan and Toyotas part).

Nothing really came out from Nissan to compete with the JZA80. It would have been the next logical step for Nissan to freshen up the 300ZX if they wanted to keep that game going.

The Skyline isn't really a GT car like the Supra, I wouldn't put them in competition with each other. Much like I doubt a new Supra (if sticking to the powerful RWD setup) is going to go head to head with the GT-R.

I think it was more a case of model progression and when the various new models came out. The 300zx/Fairlady was a huge step up when it came out, wait four years for the MKIV Supra to show up and by that stage technology has moved on a bit....it's hard to compare unless cars were developed/released at very similar times, heck even the progression in tyre technology makes a huge difference to performance!

I would say, in dry conditions, the MKIV Supra is faster than an R32 GTR but the real advantage of AWD is that its' performance isn't substantially reduced when road/track conditions aren't favorable: If I visualise it as a graph, the GTR takes a slight hit in the performance 'peaks' in order to not have as deep 'troughs'. The Supra has greater performance potential but also can't realise that potential in as large a range of situations as the GTR. Horses for courses etc.

I've seen that drift LFA and its not for me and I cringe when they butcher the LFA like that.

If they really wanted toimpress the enthusiast why not go twin turbo with the v-10 now that would be interesting.

I just spoke to a lexus friend of mine and she mentioned that a white LFA will be at R&B Toyota in Kent Tce in Feb.Apparently it will be doing the rounds round Lexus dealerships in NZ.

Also had a good look over the RC-F today very nice but for me it looks like its carrying tomuch weight for mine.

It's got like 19' wheels on it but they looked to small or maybe it was just me.

Also noticed that the RC-F got the good rubber Michelin Pilot Sport vs the LFA's tired Bridgestone SOO1's whats up with that.

Might take the day off and go for a look.

Noticed that white LFA is left hook.It's probably one of the US demo cars.

I'm going to attend the showroom event at R & B Kent Tce on the 11th.

I think its already done some laps at Manfield already.
