2gr fse crown engine ticking and weeping shocks

Postby steroidcontaskie » Sat Aug 01, 2015 7:56 pm

Hi all

I'm going to replace my daily driver and had a look at a 2gr-fse crown athlete 2006 150ks

Car was nice, but had a ticking from the engine, weeping rear shocks and pulled a bit to the left.

The car has sports and normal mode for the suspension. Anyone know if the shocks will be special/expensive to replace?

As for the engine ticking, is this normal for a 2gr fse?

I will try go view another for comparison, but there are not many around.

Cheers
Edward

Hi Guys,

Just to update, it appears the suspension system AVS adaptive variable suspension system like what is on a lexus gs350.

Should just be an evolution of TEMS? When I replaced the TEMS stuff on my JZZ30 it was pretty reasonable - $150 per corner for genuine stuff from memory.

Ticking probably to do with the direct injection? IS350 and GS350 run the same engine, probably a heap more google results by searching that.

I think Toyota do shocks for ALL cars at line price. Hit up 1I1 for the $150 pricing. But I could be completely wrong.

The ticking sound could be something to do with the vvti system.
I know Lexus had a safety recall on the IS350 which was due to faulty parts on the vvti.

... Relating to a rubber oil feed line junction to drivers side head on rear wheel drive or rear head on east west

This part was superseded with a all steel pipe and has no relation to a engine tick / death rattle that is common with this engine type when cold at higher kms

Easy test Under load gets louder around 3,000 rpm = rod knock = expensive engine replacment

PS Crown 3.5 is my ideal replacement for my JZS161 Aristo is this the car at Kilburn cars Manukau ??

Actually the recall I was referring to was for the vvti actuator bolts coming loose. A brief rattle can be heard on start up, etc.

I'm also looking to replace my JZS161 Aristo with a 2GR powered car. Getting a Lexus IS350 though (well hoping to).

Hi all, thanks for the replies.

I'm going to get an inspection done and might get mechanical breakdown insurance with the car.

It's not the one at kilburn. The one at kilburns was less noisey but had been smoked in.

This one is at the back of a guys property in Mangere . Seems legit.

Wow, this is news to me.

So these 2GRs are known to go a bit wrong with higher mileage? Or is this just miss treated examples with tardy oil changes?

I don't think they are bad, but they do have some recalls on them. And from what I read they get more ticky as they get older.

The 2gr fse does go pretty well though.
