Hey, I brought 275mm discs with a 54mm centre for my rally car - I will try to find the toyota part number tonight and post. I think the part number was for a AE101 GTZ (so SS??).
Have you checked for any other differences bewteen the carriers? Same distance between pads?
Cheers, Al

Yeah the ST202 twinpots must be slightly wider to accept the thicker discs.

Thanks for checking!

Thanks man. The part number is no problem. I have the part numbers for both the 54mm and 55mm 275mm discs. The trouble I'm having is which one my hub is

My mate in England went to fit his AE101 SS twinpot calipers with ST202 Celica carriers to his Corolla today (using 275mm discs) but unfortunately ran into issues with the back of the disc rubbing up against the carrier bracket, meaning he'll either need to grind the carrier or space out the disc.
Anyone run into this problem before? Pretty sure I've seen it mentioned on here before so any solution would be great as I'm going to run into the exact same problem when I fit mine.
Here's the photos he took:

Yes, I had this problem with an all AE101 twinpot setup - installed a 1.6mm SS spacer under the disc to fix.
Wasn't as bad as rubbing but disc was not running in the centre of the pad carrier. Have a mate that had the same problem and installed exactly the same spacer as me.
Both sets of discs were machined down to about 262mm diameter. Actually found that the disc should be smaller on AE92 (SC) knuckles than AE82 GT knuckles - go figure?
Anyone measure the gap between AE101 pad carriers and ST202 carriers - is it the same? (ie are the ST202 ones designed for a thicker disc?)
Thanks. Cheers, Al

Great info. Cheers! The downside with the AE101 hub is that it 'steps up' in size slightly where the disc sits. So the true centre bore size is 55mm, but the front of the centre bore steps down to 54mm, so I'd imagine using a spacer would cause all sorts of problems.
Interested to know more about the 1.6mm SS spacer though. Is this a part fitted from factory to the SS models? Couldn't find it in the parts diagrams unfortunately. As for the ST202 carriers, yeah I'm pretty sure they're designed to run 27mm thick discs.

Yeah sorry, 1.6mm Stainless steel spacer (some stuff I had laying around). If you put in a spacer can you just buy 54mm centre discs and be done? Would a spacer be enough to move you to the 54mm area?
I just figured that the Superstrut knuckle/hub is different in this offset/carrier position so made up a spacer and everythings been fine.
So if the ST202 carriers are designed for a 2mm thicker disc everyone will need to be careful about pads falling out when the thickness get down near minimum! VERY messy if you drop a pad out when racing (or anytime)!
I will certainly be looking into using this carrier though if it gets me the original 275 disc and extra braking torque from the pad position.
Thanks Kiwi-Corolla! Cheers, Al

Hmm, yeah a 1.6mm spacer should push it forward enough for me to use the first 54mm lip before it steps up to 55mm. Would solve the 2mm clearance issue with the carrier bracket too.
That's true. Would have to keep an eye on the pad life to make sure it's not running too low. The thought of a pad falling out while driving isn't very pleasant
No worries man. I look forward to eventually trying this out in real-life. I tackled the 266mm rear disc brake conversion in the weekend, which didn't turn out to be too difficult, so the 275mm front brake conversion will be the next thing on the cards

Re: AE101 SuperStrut 275mm Disc Centre Bore Size
Hey guys
Time to bring up this old thread! Have finally found some twinpots from a SS Curren so thought they would be same as fitted to SS ST202. However, the carriers are no different to the AE101 carriers unlike in photo above. Were the ST202 brackets pictured above from a SS ST202 or non SS? The calipers are also not 40T27's, they are 40T28's.
On a side note, which calipers are better to use, the AE101 or slightly bigger/beefier Celica/Curren ones? The extra width for disk shouldn't bring any issues I would think since it would only be 1mm more extension on each piston.
Also does anyone have a spare set of the bigger carrier brackets with or without calipers?
Brad

Re: AE101 SuperStrut 275mm Disc Centre Bore Size
The carriers pictured are from a non-SuperStrut ST202, 3S-GE version. Anything SS or 3S-FE etc won't work if you plan on using a 275mm disc. I don't think you'd notice any real difference in braking performance between the AE101/AE111 and ST202 twinpots.

Good to know, we should compile an accurate list of parts to help others know what works.
Yes the performance of the two calipers would be similar however can anyone think of other advantages/disadvantages with either one? The ST202 calipers have more cooling fins for instance but are probably heavier.
