well it looks like your onto it with the ABS stuff. Problem however is that the car doesn't have ABS, so there's no sensor at the hub to draw a signal off to stick into the ABS computer > multiplex > ECU
Guess I need to find some sort of way to imitate the signal, I can just put a microcontroller into the car but I don't know what the waveform should look like exactly.
This is getting overly complicated. Could i simply not use a microcontroller to fire the lift solenoid at 6000rpm? Or will the car have a panic attack.

There are 7 wires on the OBD2 Port.
2 go into the ECU
1 is the power earth
1 is the signal earth
1 is Power from the OBD fuse (I have just used a spare 7.5A fuse)
2 Go to the MPX
The MPX is the multiplex communications box in the car which I am not running, I can always hook it up for the sake of the OBD2 port but I bet its gonna take a long time as it runs yet another fuse box and probably has a dozen different power inputs needed.
Looking at OBD2 on Wikipedia it seams that those 2 cables are needed though so guess i gotta get busy and put it in.
try to get the diagnostics working first and then borrow a scan tool. from there you can get data (speed, rpm, trouble codes etc). i think you dont need to connect the 2 mpx wires as its for some other body modules (abs, srs)...

wow 96 bucks... go to an electrical workshop that do diagnostics. they will do it for around 40-60. some even charge less if they didnt find a fault or they cannot communicate with the car. if you were in auckland i may be able to help you with my diagnostics equipment. i think jaycar still sells one of those generic obd2 readers.

well I've got a reply from paul woods and I don't need to run the onboard multiplex computer.
Also I've ordered an OBD2 reader from deal extreme for 25 bucks, I figured its so cheap that I could afford to get it wrong 3 times before it costs 1 Toyota visit...
I also went into NZEFI and they said that the speedo signal is going to be a square wave probably at 5V with a frequency of either 2 or 4 pulses per wheel revolution. So that potentially makes it quite simple to imitate if need be.

It can't be any harder than making mivec work on a Mitsi.
Steve
You need the ECU to switch the lift as it will also need to change it's mapping to suit the lift as it will alter the timing and fuel slightly when lift is enabled.
Find the wire that is speed to the ecu and run a 5V sq wave speed signal to it.
The car should have a reed switch in the dash and a resistor and a 5V feed from the TPS will do it.

Lol I think its prob gonna swing the rear end wide :p such a shame I don't have an LSD anymore
I haven't thrashed it hard around corners etc as im waiting for my new front rotors to show up, current ones are warped, I skimmed them for new pads, did a trackday and they warped on me, stupid things.
The ECU needed a speedo signal, went back to the mechanical speedo from the aw and grabbed the cable coming from the dash, I hadn't realized that there was an electrical signal already there. (Old loom is a mess from previous owners engine swap)
Makes it so much cooler having the only 1 around :p. Do need to get it certed now, should be easy enough.

I will try and get a good vid on the weekend for you guys.
Going to be putting it around ruapuna next Saturday also
Is that with motosoc? I think that's when they are doing a track day? I was thinking of going for a look, sounds pretty awesome to me.
