new cams!

Post by bzr ae111 »

i recently went a priced up some "fast street" cams and valve springs from kelford cams in chch, the cams r $937 and the valve springs are $400....its quite expensive and im wondering if the amount of power gain i will get from these parts will be worth the money? any help would be much appreciated :D and do u think the power gains will be dramatic or not so dramatic?

They should give her a fair bit more honk, will be cool to drive. Youll probaly find it idles like a c**t, but if ya get adjustable cam gears ya should be able to get it to behave like normal. $400 for springs is kinda steep, what kind are they?

But kelford will run ya through all this.

Franklins springs are half that, might save ya a couple of hundy.

Bout $230 from Franklin.

But should be cool with the cams, id look at adjustable cam gears though.

heh... your replying to my post which i removed.

Origional post: "Ecu wont like it will it?"

In which i removed it, because we dont know the duration, the lift, or anything about the cams in question, and i couldnt be buggered looking up the kelford site... so i just removed my post.

But now its just weird you replying to nothing :D

Then youre an ass. Kelfords fast street cams are about 260 intake and 252 exhaust, and are fine with stock ECU.

Billets are better, and with regrinds you either need to add more meat to them to give them lift (then shim changes) or grind them with standard lift and extend the valves (bout 70 thou).

It'll be fun as to drive, I recon you should do it. But then again I consider my car a toy so practicality is thrown out the window 8)

but overall, to get sum descent power out of a 1600, epsecially to beat the vtecs like at honda toyspeed drags, which as many people sed we need faster NA's, you'll have to spend alot for NA for good power increase, thats the bugger with NA....

It sounds as though you think you need a specific ECU for your car ... ? Not quite correct - any aftermarket ECU will work, some just offer more features (which you probably don't need; eg boost control). As someone else said, Link or Link Plus will be plenty :)

Just remember if you're getting performance cams installed to replace the factory ones, your torque and power curves are going to change. Power will come on later, and will be more concentrated at the top end, and you're going to lose power in the lower and mid rev range. The car will feel and sound great pulling onto the motor, or screaming round a track, but its not going to be as good for day-to-day round town driving, simply because there isn't that much room to hit the revs you're looking at that often (in anything other than 1st and 2nd gear).

With an Apexi SAFC2 you will be getting a gain of about 7kw@wheels for your $1200-$1500 approx
