Turbo Kits for Altezza
Hi Guys and Gals...
Does anyone here know where I can get myself a Turbo kit for my 3G-SE.
Also...anyones thoughts to the power gain I will get from a turbo set up...
Currently running .65 Bar of boost, with a Blitz s/c, was hoping to run a higher boost around 1 bar.
Also thoughts on potenial problems I might not have taken into account..
Cheers

Theres quite a few posts on this on altezzaclub forums... most recently here....

IMO, you can get much better results from making a turbo kit yourself, rather than buying an off the shelf kit.
Check out that trademe listing... the guy paid over $12k for it
That amount of $$ would get you a pretty good setup if you were to make your own kit

Hi guys thanks.
well with a supercharger the response straight from throttle is heaps better than a turbo that I've found...the sound that the s/c makes is a really interesting one.
just thinking of what can be done how much faster or original I could make it.
I've had a chat around and some guys reckon with a s/c and turbo running together they could create a lag in boost and response. air flow backwards and forwards? any thoughts?

What the F$%K are people thinking buying that.
You could probably get a 2JZ-GTE installed for that kind of money - wabam, theres 250kW and all the torque you were dreaming of. Plus uniqueness
Failing that, I could create you the mother of all turbo "kits" with 10 grand to play with - last time we did something like that it was 450hp from an evo 8 for under 8 grand
Thoughts on turbo + supercharger - as said by someone else, the time and $$ sunk into trying to make it work would be much better spent elsewhere for the "gains" you get.

i am currently doing a 2jzgte conversion into an altezza for a mate,
got a genuine 2jzgte, W58, gone single turbo, link computer, 3" stainless exhaust, and 3" alloy intercooler piping etc. still a bit to go, but going to go like fu*k when its all done.
done a bit of work on massaging the crossmember and sump to make it fit. apart from that its an easy fit.

FrEsH wrote:from waht i've read about those sort of setups (turbo and superchargeR) is the supercharger restricts the engine too much at higher rpm when the turbo wants to make its power...so you end up with not such a great setup than say just a correctly matched turbocharger with no supercharger...
depends how you set it up.
twin feed (2 inlets (1 turbo, 1 supercharger), 2 outlets into the ic piping), then into the engine...
the question is, will airflow from the turbo force back towards the supercharger

yep the Honda City Turbo II block is built pretty damn strong from what i hear.....can run some serious boost through them.
A W58 behind a modded 2jz-gte?....might not last long if thrashed. Not a bad box at all just not particularly suited to high power/torque applications....

HI Guys,
Thanks for all of your responses.
Well, I'm now thinking s/c + turbo wont be a go'er.
Any suggestions on how I can increase boost / power with my current set up.
Again. Blitz s/c, blitz i/c, sard racing radiator, a/filter, bov, exhaust,
oh yeah...there is a small metal square thing "G-Reddy" around by the radiator running off one of the small hoses...not sure what it is.

My friend (lotsa experience) turbocharged another friends' altezza.
Took less than 2 days, including making the steam pipe header. 60 trim t3/0.63 turbine housing from early vg30 z31 @ 11psi. Fmic 10"x24"x2.5" from light duty izusu truck. Greddy emanage piggyback.
Lousy stock performance (...made me wonder what the beams/6spd 'internet buzz' was all about). Once boosted, it was a totaly different car - turbo lit up right away while pressed you back in the seat smartly, every gear change. No hiccups. Very nice daily driver then.
"this is more like it", I thought
Broke the diff shortly after. Somehow rigged up an F series to work.
Owner (novice) got carried away with his laptop, Emanage, boost and race fuel = Blew the motor.
Friend replaced it with a 1jzgte/r154. Pulled even stronger obviously.
Conversion done in another 3days. Oe looking install. AC cold, but tach not sorted. Had to do some fab work to get the shifter 'just right'.
