Differance between facelift and pre facelift RZ Supra
Yeah so whats different about facelift and preface lift on a JZA80 RZ Supra?
I've read that the facelift should have airbags and alloy radiator what else is there? Do the facelifts have bigger brakes factory? as i've seen that big brakes became an option in 95 so is it just luck of the draw if you get them or not?
Is there anything about the exterior thats different?
Only asking as i want a supra and i see theres more pre 96 supras round so wondering if its worth trying to get a 96+ or not

i think the facelift has VVTi and also an electric front lip spoiler thingy.
The VVT i came in after the facelift tho like 98 so there are non vvti facelift ones too. My dream would be a vvti 2J supra but i don't think thats going to happen as i don't think i've ever seen one for sale, well not a manual one at least
different dash layout.
different tail lights.
indicators on edges of front and rear bumpers.
big brakes
gearbox ratios

Cheers strx7 thats the kind of info i was after
Yeah i've heard that, kinda weird that they make more aftermarket bits for the non vvti
Since Genuine turbo manuals seem to be pretty thin on the ground are the differances enough to worry about getting a facelift? or just find a good one and run with it
Don't get a vvti if you want to do many mods. Otherwise it would be totally sweet to have a vvti 2j

that is purely to do with the amount of vehicles out there that aren't VVTI and therefore the demand for non VVTI bits is MILES more than the demand for VVTI bits. However if you are after a car with a broad power range VVTI is the way to go.
You can get cams for them easily if you look in the right places, and because of the VVTI you will end up with more torque under the curve and therefore more punch thru the revrange.

To be honest, the easiest and cheapest option is to find a Tidy 96+ facelift SZ-R which has the V161 6spd box, torsen LSD, turbo sized brakes. and either put a GTE into it or turbo the N/A motor. The price difference means you have a lot of money to play with ($10K or more)

Yeah i know i've thought about that a lot but i'd really like to try and get a genuine one but we'll see, gotta sell the altezza first
Differences are (I know some of these have been said, it's just to make you a list
):
Different Headlights
Different Taillights
Extra indicators
Different front indicators (parker inside indicator, rather than inside headlight)
Different dash layout (Boost guage on stock TT's)
Big Brakes on all TT's
Aluminium radiator
All 96+ Supra's should have airbags
Different seat pattern
Edit: Add to that a front splitter in the front bumper hole
Weren't the gear ratio's only changed for the GE/SZ-R's? (Using the V161 which had shorter ratios over the V160?)
vvt-i's were only from about 1997.5 onwards IIRC, hence there are very few. Could be wrong about this though.

+1
I was set on saving up for a black facelift 6 speed RZ, but when an SZ-R came up for sale matching this description I came to the same conclusion, the GTE motor is getting a good service at the moment before it goes in
And I still havn't seen what I was originally set on appear for sale anywhere, in any condition.

our 1993 had alloy arms, I thought they all did. All suspension arms front and rear are alloy

Yours may have been replaced then? Or some special edition? Older ones are 48068-14080 & 48069-14080, newer are 48068-14090 & 48069-14090, newer ones being a fair bit more expensive.
The early ones are also near identical to Z30 Soarer arms which are definitely steel and the same price.
who knows it definitly had alloy arms in it and our current SZR has alloy arms everywhere that i've seen
