CT26 Exhaust Wheel Gone

Post by loudstealthGT-Four »

So today my turbo gave up, exhaust wheel went bang :( .

What i wanted to know is, is it possible for the fragments from the exhaust wheel to be projected back up the manifold into the engine?

Yes, that's how I blew up my first 450hp CT26 and my 3S-GTE.

was doseing it back in 2001, and a lot of boost

nek minnit....... actually it was more like 3 months later, back to normal boost and BOV, driving home normally and car randomly stalled.

Checked compression: 30, 0, 0, 0 or some shit.

Bores all fuct.

Was doing about 0.5 bar on partial throttle around 4k rpm.

Still have the fuct wheel, looks like someone took all the fins out and you're left with a core.
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

I'll have a spare CT26 available tomorrow.

I wouldn't much for it, maybe $100 since you are turbo less :(

Yea there is nothing left of my exhaust wheel, it's all MIA.

Reason I ask is that after it happened engine started to knock, sounded like it was coming from up top of the engine, then seems to have gone away after it's cooled down :?

Pulled the exhaust manifold off, can't seem to find any evidence of shrapnel, but will do a comp test just in case

maybe crazy idea, but could you take the plugs out and twirl a magnet around in each bore before you start it up again? Just in case?
(btw, not sure what the fins are made of...)

I had a factory cat on mine, were you boosting while it happened?

I think your engine is toast.

The coffee cups at work disagree.. might be something to do with the fabricators leaving them on workbenchs while angle grinding. Nothing like a rusty coffee to kickstart your day.

Pretty much the same then.

Compression test next and then buy a real 3S-GTE?

More than likely detonation first, bits of engine went out through the turbine and killed it. You won't get bits of turbine going back into engine.

ouch man! sorry to hear that!

if your engine is unscathed which i hope it is - there is a CT26 here in the garage - its condition is when we pulled it off "boosts well and smooth, no untoward noise but possibly oil seals are letting oil leak into intake"

if you want it im sure you can have it real cheap given its condition - ill hit up the owner of it if you might be keen to recondition it or something
