Link ECU coldstart probs

Postby Jools » Wed Apr 28, 2004 1:05 pm

Anyone know why the Link ECU is causing me so much grief with cold startup? 1 out of 5 mornings it just wont turn over, and even when it does its a mission

Also anyone got any ideas on how to get a more stable idle from it?

Its apparently one of the problems they have with the earlier versions of Links...ought to have gone for a LinkPlus
You might be able to get newer software loaded on it, try giving them a call

Also if you can, check the voltage at the link when cranking.
If it starts to drop to 11volts the link then reboots.

Been running link plus for a year now with no cold start probs.

bah ahahahahahaah! sorry, but....

your engine wont actually crank? thats battery not the link. if it was cranking and not firing, well then id start looking at it.

if your batterys on the way out, they dont seem to like cold mornings. id check that first.

haha, your right, i didn't read closely enough.

A stable idle is acheivable, who tunes it?

Mix up of words...the engine cranks, but dosent fire.

Torque performance did the tuning.
I've been told theyre not the best tuners in the world, but he certainly did a good job in my eyes.
Its just that the idle tends to drop really low when you take your foot of, and tends to stall. Else it just goes low then works up to a proper idle

hmm... thats a bit trickier.

yeah without idle speed control hooked up, its a bit more difficult to get a stable idle. generally i just wind mine up to about 900rpms by adjusting the throttle stop.

as for the not starting, check fuel and spark... but it might be 'crank enrich' not set high enough.

give link a call, they'll be able to set you right.

Not sure how it's done on the link but generally speaking to increase your idle speed/ get a stable idle then you advance the ignition over the idle speed range, and the advance should be the same for the whole idle speed range. On my Motec I set it the ignition curve flat below 1250rpms.

How much advance are you running at idle?

it is possible the hot idle setting is not high enough which is probly why it starts off low then works it way up to the preset idle speed.
