Supra vs. RX7

Don't get me wrong I'm not having a go at you, it just seems to me your intentions were a little unclear, there are a lot more worse shit stirrers on these forums than you which is why I enjoy the nzmmc forums so much, (finally back up)
And perhaps bias is not the correct term but you are looking for oppurtunities to talk up and defend the rx7 which shows your preference imho and unfortunately you have to accept peoples points of view sometimes no matter how much you may disagree with them especially in a poll such as this where you're asking for peoples opinions.
As with most things in life both these cars have their strengths and weeknesses.
Have you tried posting the same poll on a mazda forum?

Sure, rotaries can be unreliable, but so can any high performance engine that isnt maintained and thrashed.
I dont hold the rotary as the be all and end all, but I can respect the fact they make great power from such a compact unit.
Sooooooo true
one of the best comments i have read on this post so far
most high preformance engines have to be pulled down at some stage
and has for that comment about making great power, i respect the rotary engine and treat it with the up most repect along with the v-tec engines

but az for drag racing im dam sure the supra was the first full chassis car " import " to break into the 7s or 8s
please feel free to correct me
butonce again i will say each to there own
There are 600hp+ street driven rotaries in NZ... DEFINATELY registered.
If I remember rightly, FOURRE is street registered and warrented and has had a new exhaust made up to not be so insanely loud - thats over 600hp NA
crap i forgot about that car........man that thing sounds like a indy car at full revs...........arrrr the memorys and the hering loss

I like the RX7 for its low weight, good weight distrbution and the shape, but the rotary puts me off completely. I don't have much experience with rotaries but as Grease monky pointed out the number you see for sale with rebuilt engines at ~100,000kms is disconcerting to say the least. I don't think they sound very good either. And then there is the fuel economy.
An RX7 with a piston engine would be good, but that would upset the weight distribution and I'm sure you'd have trouble fitting one under the bonnet.

I think you're exagerating a bit there. IIRC an RZ Supra weighs around 1550KG. So 250KGs more maybe.

Maybe, maybe not. As I'm sure you know theres more to it than just power - a 300kw 2JZ-GTE is going to be making a lot more torque than a 300KW 13B. Or were you meaning around a race track.
Tough decision though.
I wouldn't call a Supra practical; its big with no cabin space(no leg room in the front and one of the smallest back seats I've ever seen) and a nearly useless boot. I don't see the point really. In fact I'd say its less practical than a SW20 in a lot of ways.
In the end I'd have to take the Supra and spend lots of money putting it on a diet

I was wondering if someone was going to bring that up
I'd SAY that the torque/weight of the two will be similar... given the RX7 has a 16-17% weight advantage on the Supra - which is very close to the torque difference. RX7 won't pull from low revs as happily as the supra though.

if i put my seat as far back as it goes i can
hardly reach the peddles![]()
you got the back seat bit correct if seat all
the way back its touching the back seat.
Hmm, are you very tall? I've sat in several Supras and all have been the same. While I could drive one it would not be very confortable, and considering how big the car is...
I'm about 194cm (6'4 1/2") btw.
I think it would have been better to exclude the back seat and therefore have more room for the front seats. But then I spose its a lot harder to sell a 2 seater sports cars than a 2+2.

I've managed to drive one thru welly with 4 passengers. Sure it was only a short drive and they were drunk...maybe that numbed the pain?
