VVT pullys

Postby AceSniper » Thu Feb 24, 2005 6:58 pm

so what's different between blacktop and silvertop? if any..

I have a silvertop one with this number:
3f30 3334

And a blacktop one with this number:
6k130881

also do I still use a silvertop cambelt when runing blacktop pullys?
thanks :P

Don't quote me but I suspect they reprofiled the VVT pulley in order to give a better response from the longer duration inlet cam in the blacktop, or possibly just to avoid the pistons hitting the valves.
Either way, its more than likely matched to the blacktop inlet cam.

the cambelts are the same well they look identical. I think both pulleys have the same advance just by moving them by hand and measureing how much they move. I was thinking the duration is the same on both 20v's just looks like more lift in the blacktop cam

Yep Blacktop has more lift, which would imply more duration, possibly not ramp to ramp but 10 ro 50 thou it would be easliy measurable. Especially as it is a reasonable lift increase from 7.97 to 8.20mm.
Would be interesting to note if Toyota did reprofile the Blacktop VVT pulley. Could you throw one on a degree wheel?

i thought silvertop was 10deg advance and blacktop 15.....

the cambelts are a different partnumber... so there must be some difference
weather it prevents swapping them i dont know

From the spec sheet I have,
the pulleys both have the same advance in them,
and the cams have the same stated duration,
but the blacktops open 5 degree's earlier and close 5 degrees earlier than the silvertop,
and silvertop has 7.97mm lift opposed to blacktop's 8.2mm.

Exhaust cams are same spec.

If you believe what you read on the net.

the cambelts are different, blacktop misses a tooth (could be wrong there, might have an extra one?????) and is wider mainly due to the hydralic belt tensioner arrangement and as far as i know the wheels are just indexed differently while the blacktop exhaust wheel has 3 spokes instead of 5

I'd say no.

I would still use the silvertop belt as said,
(presuming that you have a silvertop motor)

but since you are using the blacktop cams and pulley's i'd line them up as per blacktop, the way the cams are meant to be.

Just my view.

Has anyone thought of counting teeth? If the belt is one tooth bigger or smaller then both the lnlet pullies and the crank pulley has to have a different number of teeth or the cams would rotate out of timing to the point pistons will collect valves.
I guess the real question is why do you want to use the blacktop pulleys?

I dont think the number of teeth on the belt will matter, as long as it's the correct length for you application,
The silvertop belt is for std tensioner and blacktop if you are using the hyd tensioner,
but as you bought these off trademe ( i was watching that auction too) i kinda presume that you are fitting them to a silvertop.

but the main point that you bring up is,
is the number of teeth on the blacktop and silvertop pulley the same, and do they still have twice the teeth of the crank pulley as that's what determines the timing not rotating out of sync?

just counted the teeth on the blacktop wheels... 36 teeth on each, anyone gota silvertop one they can count? :D

yea I want to fit them to a Silvertop mainly coz the vvt pully onit is getting noisey, an iv hurd of blacktop cams in a silvertop so I thought id just fit the whole lot since a silvertop wheel would have prolly cost more than what i payed for the lot.
