4k Overheating

Postby 1goodidea » Thu Jun 02, 2005 9:00 pm

I've had this problem with both my starlets with both of their k-series motors, how do i stop the motor from over-heating if im stoped with the car running for a few minutes or at major traffic jams.

Radiator is in reasonbile condition, it's a stardard kp60 item with a few broken fins

any ideas, anyone else have this problem?

I've had a few K's, and never had any real overheating issues.

Is the radiator fan running at all?

Overheating in traffic sounds like it might not be.

things like correct fuel mixture and timeing also can contribute heaps to heating problems, although the radiator would be my first port of call.
Have you ever backflushed it?, even if it looks ok it could be clogged. Also as above, check the fan is operating too

Yeah, is your radiator fan going?

I've NEVER had any problems with overheating in any of my K motor's, they usually run pretty cool actually.

I don't even have a fan on mine at the moment, and it only gets hot if you are sitting in one spot for like 5 or more minutes.

Mine only heats up in stop start traffic, but the radiator is pretty poked. Ordinarily its fine.
Hows the radiator cap too?

My 4K overheated when I tried to be a cheap arse and went from twin carb to single carb. (had big cam though)

Make sure yo got no vacuum leaks or manifold leaks
Other than that it should be sweet. Trust me you can't kill a "K" series engine with running it dry of water and oil at the same time!!!!!!!!!

Also check gaerbox level if you still worried. When my gt4 gearbox blew my engine over heated
