What turbo imports would an M3 or m5 beat. There is alot of competition out there evo's, skyline gtr, supra ,gt4 and i would even go as far to say the new civic type r with 225 hp stock would give an m3 a run for his money. Sh-t little banzai cleaned up a late model m3 and the whole car cost less than 17'000
Are you dead sure it was an m3, there are alot of lookalikes around out there and not many real m's. Making a standard 325/8 look like an m isn't all that hard imho - and yes it should have been as fast as an mr2 with a bleed tap, and a hell of a lot more reliable, depending on what your bleed tap had upped the boost to. Oh and na cars almost always feel slow, did you do an objective test on them or just the ultra relaible seat of the pants ometer standard??
3SGE faster than 3SGTE ? LOL lets discuss this ~~

It depends what you mean by beat? And also what M3's and M5's you're talking about. You realise the new M5 has 500hp right?
Personally I'd take the beemers by miles.

And 520nm of torque and a $220K price tag to boot
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

You are talking about a car that in worked form could and did blitz holden and fords best in the day, they were scared enough by the power of a 4 cylinder M3 that they banned them outright just like the cosworths.
Why are you comparing Jap to euro anyway? Were talking about a refined vehicle in a different weight and price bracket. Why do these threads lead to comparisons from way outside the realm of the topic.

Stock-ish(cold air and exhaust only) Corolla Runx is approximatly the same performance as a stock Caldina GT-T... atleast until you hit hillsI guess it's the extra torque.
Shhhhhhhhh!! Now you'll have all the boyracers wanting one!!
well they(RunX and Allex) are technically the replacements for the Trueno and Levin, they're sold as that somewhere in the world(found marketing shots etc online somewhere).

so that each person can say that they won.... you take a simple generic comparison, and as each of your arguements gets challenged, you move the goal posts slightly, in the end the arguement and who one doensn't matter, but each feel better for it, because "they won".
If you're at varsity, do some psyc papers, bloody funny.

Hmm is barry giving out good ideas?? Just a quick question, whats the best exhaust setup for a 3SGE Beams? Incl Headders and Intake?
Pheonix power in Japan make headers for the fwd beams motor. Pair that up with a 2 1/2 inch pipe coming out just behind the left hand side front wheel.
EDIT:
Oh, and we can swap throttle bodies so you can do a MAP conversion, and then you wont need that silly airbox, and you can give it to me.

don't be silly, I don't give out good ideas, just hair-brained schemes, and some odd ideas for projects... once I get better at welding, I might start tinkering with making something myself.

So you want my airbox and throtle body eh? hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Throttle bodies are identical as far as I am aware, but mine has a thread tapped into it for a MAP sensor. as it used to run one with an aftermarket computer. (as opposed to the factory hot wire airflow meter)
And if I had my standard airbox, I'd be using it! But since I dont, it's a pod filter for me.
I'm skeptical of any performance advantage, but it should sound cool at least.

Best Motoring compared the M5 (5 speed manual) and a Mercedes 500E (auto) against the Toyota Aristo V (the older shape one with the non VVT-i 2jz-gte) with an auto on a slightly damp track in 92 (I think the track was Tskuba....not sure) and the Aristo was faster around it than both the BMW (2nd) and Merc (3rd).....
I have a video on my computer (also Best Motoring) racing a new Skyline 350 GT a 350Z (almost the same car really) against the M3 (latest version with the 3.2 six)....i cant remember the exact times but they were all about equal around that track.
The thing with Japanese cars (especially the larger ones that arent sold outside the JDM) is that the press releases/hype doesnt seem to get outside of Japan.....notice all the talk about every new little revision to Ford and Holden products in our motoring magazines?.....no mention of JDM cars (Not suprisingly really as they arent sold new outside Japan)....Japan makes some very fast sports sedans and has done for sometime....just not many people know about them
I hear that Toyota NZ is introducing a large sedan later this year....Im hoping its the Crown series!!! (I doubt we will get the 243KW 3.5 V6 option though
