Trackday Requirements

This is just an idea.....

Could we make an imformative thread as to all of the requirements to take part in Levels track days and Ruapuna....

There are a few events on the books, and everytime an event is posted, people ask whats required to take part. I myself would find the info helpful in 2007 when i'll have a car suitable for track.

So could people such as Fangsport and Matt (and anyone else involved in trackdays) post a list of basic requirements for a car, and its driver to take part...

*helmet
---*which standards are excepted
*Licenses
---*which are required for which types of events if applicable
---*what are the costs to get day, season etc licenses of each type
*in car equipment,
---*fire extinguisher, mounting requirements, size needed.
---*Overalls, fabric etc

plus whatever else is applicable

Another part could recommend which car parts should be replaced before / after such an event as wear and tear would be increased on parts such as brakes, so it would be good to know from people with experience what should be changed before and after an event.

such as:
*brakes
---* pads?
---* fluid?

*oils
---* engine
---* gearbox

things like this arent common knowledge, I say this as I surf the forum a bit and havent noticed anywhere that says what should be replaced before and after a trackday.... so any guildlines as such in this area would be helpful and valueable for racers for keeping everything well maintained. Regular racers must have some kind of schedule that they keep to in regards to servicing etc.

The information has been posted in pretty much every thread for an event, so I think it would save time if the people involved (i may have missed names as i'm yet to be invloved in any trackdays in anyway) could help out here, as it will help people wanting to try out etc.

IMO, if all the requirements are in one thread, it makes it easy to check your car is upto scratch, and could lead to a group of semi-lazy people making the step more often....perhaps....

Yes metal and panel washers as well. Overalls 100% cotton. Easiest way is to just get the regulations off the club... means no confusion or second hand info.

yeah I really cant be f**ked reading the whole manual or whatever to get a bit of info to make it easier for everyone to compete to be honest, thanks tho,

if i get a chance, i will get busy on this tomorrow night, unless someone else wants a shot at it.

standard issues are:
incorrect and poorly mounted extinguisher,
polycoton o/alls
race seats with 3 point lap/diagonal belts
insufficient insulation of +battery terminal

Luke's idea is for a list of all the requirements and regulations that have to be met, fansport listed common failing items which are helpful also but was in the opposite sense.

just been through this whole process, taken quite a while as its my first time going through the process.

1.get cage made
2.get cage fitted
3.fill in homologation forms

6.once log book and homologation forms are sent back fill in authority card form and clubsport licence form

Well the best suggestion so far is to simply print out, and read the Schedule A link posted above. Because that is The Rules of MSNZ.

The biggest stuff up people make is being too lazy to read the rulebook, and asking other people to give them the answers ... then asssuming the person they ask also hasn't been too lazy to actually read the rulebook themselves.

Most common mistakes I see with people new to competition, who haven't read the rulebook are
1) Polycotton overalls (melty melty)
2) Cotton overalls without the side slit pockets that run through the overalls sewn shut (got roasted nuts?)
3) Antique crash helmets (your head is worth how much?)
4) Batteries not tied down (arc welding a hobby?)
5) No dirty big washers on the underside of the fire extinguisher mount (1kg extinguisher + 40g crash = 6mm head bolts pulling through floor)
6) Plastic brackets on fire extinguishers (really, seriously, exactly how stupid are you, is your brother also your grandfather?)
7) Sharp bits on the inside of the car (rollover + arms waving + sharp bits = lacerations mmmmkay?)

I'm currently trying to post some details for people competing in their first speed event. Check out what it says about bodywork/appearance and decide for yourself. Or at least decide on an opinion, and be prepared to argue it with a scrutineer it they don't see things your way
