You want to see if your car can reach 260kph?

The answer to that will be no.

From the ever informative Fivebob: 8)

fivebob wrote:Here's a < $5 speed cut that works for 3S-GTE's and should work for most other Toyotas :D

Get a 4024 I/C from Dick Smith ( http://www.dse.co.nz/cgi-bin/dse.storef ... View/Z5624 ) then connect as follows;

Pin #1 -> Speed Input ( From Speedo ?)
Pins # 2 & #7 -> Ground
Pin #14 -> +5v
Pin #12 -> Speed output (to ECU)

Cut the speed input to the ECU and put this I/C inline and it should solve your 180km/h problems

Although since this makes your ECU think that you're going half the speed that you're actually going, powersteering settings, ABS etc may get a bit messed up?

I'm not sure if the PS and ABS run from their own circuitry though, or if the ECU controls them...

For example, PS normally 'turns off' at about 80kph IIRC, now it wont do the same till you're going 160kph. (assuming it runs from the same speed output that the ECU recieves)

And BTW, 260kph is just a tease, you'll run out of gearing and/or power to go any faster by ~245ish.

Mate I don't know why you want to try and get to 260kph.

It is very very very very (is that enough very's lol) dangerous.

I have done it with my mate in his WRX (and yes I now realise how stupid and dangerous it is).

You get tunnel vision and any wrong move and you are gone (dead or worse killed someone else)

We did it on the motorway in the middle of the night and theres only one thing to describe it........ 8O .

So I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Save it for the track. :D

The ABS uses the speed sensors in the wheels so it's not affected. Not sure where the PS get's it's signal from, but it doesn't use the output from the ECU (still works ok with my Motec) , so wouldn't be affected by this mod, provided you put the I/C on the ECU and not the wire coming from the speedo. The only ECU -> PS signals are to do with letting the PS know that the engine is started or that it is idling.

For example, PS normally 'turns off' at about 80kph IIRC, now it wont do the same till you're going 160kph. (assuming it runs from the same speed output that the ECU recieves)

The PS turns off at about 140-150kph, and (at least the later models) progressivly turns down the assist as the speed rises. Lots of people have done this mod and no one has reported any problems with the PS staying on.

The speedo may make it there though, depends on how inaccurate it gets up at the top end.
FTR, on Gen 3 15"s I managed to redline mine in 5th gear on Pukekohe, which I worked out to be ~250kph. Its very light at those speeds :?
