Turning TRD LSD from 1.5 - 2 way

Postby no_8wire » Wed Dec 27, 2006 7:09 pm

According to the TRD website the Mechanical LSDs can be switched from 1.5 way to 2way which is stronger?

How do you do this?

If the LSD increases coupling in the same way regardless of whether the input torque is forwards or reverse, it is a 2 way diff. Some drifters prefer this type as the LSD behaves the same regardless of their erratic throttle input, and lets them keep the wheels spinning all the way through a corner. An inexperienced driver can easily spin the car when using a 2 way LSD if they lift the throttle suddenly, expecting the car to settle like a conventional open diff.

Wayne I suggest you never use a 2-Way LSD then.
Apparently they are not good for inexperienced drivers... wouldn't want to see you hurt yourself...

look, its going to have 3 times as much power as stock with a 3000lb pressure plate and a 3 puk...I think that will make it spin easier than a 2 way lsd...

My thoughts exactly...and I want it as strong as possible if it is to handle that power as well

correct me if im wrong but the only difference between the 1.5 way and 2 way lock up is on deceleration so the power increase wont really effect deceleration.

infact because you have lowered the compression i'd say it'll be less deceleration force than factory.

plus not taking vvega advice isnt a very good idea

he wants todo it for the lsd strength not the effects... which could be bad

The problem I see here is when you throttle off your lsd is going to clamp up and lock the rear wheels. This will cause the rear wheels to want to go straight. If you are tuning while this happens uh oh

possibly.... but remember you are supposed to brake/slow down before the corner anyway...

But I still dont know how to do it, and the engine is going in today so it will most likely stay in 1.5 form till I next pull it out.

yea well shit happens when your tuning sometimes  cyclist, crash, mud, etc

fwd is really cool to drive with an lsd because you point the wheels and thats the way the car will go. you can pivot the car about the front wheels which is kinda cool. Also coming in hard on the brakes is no problem as you'll always be spining both wheels the same speed and be able to turn sweet, unless you break traction...

rear wheel drive I dont have much experience but I would imagine you would have to place the arse into the position you want to be going then squirt it out of the corner. maybe ask vvega?

shall we start up a poll on how long before he crashes if he goes through with it?

you dont want it 2way.... at 100km in 5th if I give mine lil bit of throttle on the corner the car pulls straight off the road.... now think of that happening if you dont have good throttle balance and come off the gas or on the gas, there is a reason drifters like 2ways.....
