my question: is this broken?

shouldnt it go all the way to the end of the shaft?

just make sure you use a woodruff key not just key steel as it will be stuffed then

a woodruff key is D shaped

Just bolt it on, :P.

Looks normal.

What he means is that you can remove that sticky up bit of metal, and if you replaced it, you have to use a d shaped key, like you have now.

Make sure you do the main pulley up tight and that the front pulley is not damaged around where the key goes or it can come out and let the cambelt drive slip and root your valves,
