Ae111 Suerstrut coilovers?

Hey just brought a 1997 Trueno bzr superstrut, does anyone know of any coilovers for it? I know TRD and Tein make them but who else? cheers

Beside Tein and TRD

KYB super street special is only damper adjust, and only available if you import from Japan

GAB sports used to make them but discontinued

Arogasta in Japan also custom make them, but don't expect to get a set unless you have $5000 spare.

Koni used to make them, but not sure if they still do

Thats all the choices you have.

You may want to considered just converting superstrut back to McPerhsion (spelling, sorry). then you have a lot more choices, like Cusco, C-One, buddyclub, etc etc. most major brands in japan makes them for McPerhsion.

Short answer yes, its a bit of work.
long answer depends how good a job you want to do of it.

for least effort/potentially unsafe job of it you need the cross-member, struts (complete with brakes etc) and linkages off a non-SS ABS equipped ae111.

Problems: your brake bias will be screwed, as will your ABS calibration due to the change of brake calipers and rotors.

To do a better job you need to find a way to fit the superstrut rotors and calipers to the non-SS suspension.

This will required certing.

why don't you try to get a set of TRD damper adjust suspension with TRD low spring from revhead. He got some really great deals - which will cost less than the Tein coilovers. That will make the car look good enough. AND it is more suitable for NZ roads, especially if you are in Auckland.

currently with my GAB coilovers, although they are more comfortable than the TRD ones i Used to have, but they are still a bit bumpy on the smallest bumps. Personally if i were to do my suspension again, i would just go for damper adjust.

How often to you plan on adjusting the coilovers? I had to have a set as i though it would be cool to adjust it up and down changing the height and all. YOu get over it, basically to set it once to the desired height and thats it. so cheaper option would be to get the damper adjustable with lowered springs. My 2c

Well every time you adjust them if its a road car you would have to get them recertified

Not quite, the cert is set for the height + or - 5% (or is it 5mm? something anyway)

Well every time you adjust them if its a road car you would have to get them recertified


Mine are trd adjustable coilovers i dont have a cert for them anyway....its not needed.

I'm pretty sure that all coilovers need a cert

Are you running trd coilovers in an ae111 superstrut? what are they like?

Yeah the are for super strut. I wouldnt reccomend them for the road (the ones i have) they are as hard as hell you feel every bump. The rear wheel likes to come off the ground every now and again when pulling into akward driveways. It really depends on how fussy you are when it comes to comfort. I must say the handling is amazing i have never driven anything like it so i just love it. So the handling out weighs the stiffness.
I think there might be two different types of adjustable coilovers that trd make for them unfortunatly i have the circuit stuff. A set went on trademe awhile back for a few hundred but this stuff isnt cheap new.

I did have TRD damper adjust suspension with TRD spring on my AE111 SS as well and like "TRD_ZERO" say before, they are very hard even with the lowest damper setting, but i would said they are about 40% more harder compare to stock just to give you a rough idea. The ride height on them was just right as well, I had like a 3 fingers gap between the guard and tyres with 15 inch rims on mine.

78ke30...are you sure they got a set for superstrut? more than likley they are only for the non-superstrut model.

I remember asking once a while ago and they said none was available for the supersturt. It would be awesome if they are now! :wink:
