the general rule for warrents is that if it is factory fitted its ok.like if your car didnt come with head restraints factory fitted its ok but you cant go ripping them off.same with older cars with no rear seatbelts they still get warrents although i dont no the legality of sitting in them.

yeh if you look on youtube for a f40 dyno run, their wastegates are farkin loud :lol:

audi quattros also ran factory external wastegates though, and they have their small flexi and merge into the exhaust pretty close to the engine.

running the car for extra 2mins or wateva isnt going to cool the turbo down much ur still running the same oil through it, myself and all my mates have turbo daily cars none of us run turbo timers waste of time n money

manufacturers need to be confident that the greater % of their cars will survive long enough to avoid many warranty claims costing them many $. they also need to allow for the munter factor in that a large amount of people that buy their vehciles have no idea about cars.
they spend millions in R&D, testing all different possibilities etc. they have engine test benchs where they run engines through all different sorts of cycles etc.
yet none of them have deemed it neccessary to make turbotimers standard fitment on any of their cars. not one that i am aware of.
the only factory application i have heard of is large diesel trucks, and they are on boost nearly nonstop anyway and are a whole different kettle of fish.

i think thats quite telling don't you?

and you will probly find that thrashing a car, then letting it idle for 2 mins to 'cool down' is gunna do a hell of alot more damage than driving sedately for the last 1-2km of your journey. engines are made to peform under load. they are made to be started up, driven, then turned off. idling is just a feature for traffic or wen u come to a holt so u dont have to start the car up every time u stop and go in traffic. just like neutral in a gearbox its only there so u dont have to hold your foot on the clutch wen u stop.

when imports come into the country from japan we always do a half hour engine flush on them.. its not because they arent serviced or any bolloks like that, infact they are serviced, most of them have service stickers in the door jams.. its because wen they drive to work in the morning they probly spend 2 hours idling through gridlock traffic. fills the engine with carbon deposits through burning oil, unburnt fuel etc.. breathing into the plenum. it should burn off, infact it would but the problem is they spend so much time IDLING.

iv heard more than 1 mechanic/engine tuner call a turbo timer a car killer..

cat007.. i supose you are 1 of those people that starts their car up and leaves it idling for 5 minutes in the morning to 'warm it up'... and you say its your labour of love but in an actual fact your doing more damage than good with turbo timers.

we arent arguing that thrashing your car and turning it off is not bad, because hell it is, but we are arguing that turbo timers are really not the way to run a car down after a thrash.

lol or all the GP cars in japan would have blitz/greddy turbo timers in them. thrash them for 200 laps and pull straight into the put and leave them on turbo timer for 10 mins lol.

isnt the other purpose of a turbo timer to let the turbo spool down before the oil supply is cut off and the bearings arent left spinning with no oil?

can't see how that would work.

when the turbotimer turns off the turbo has to spool down anyway. so whether you turn it off from idle as soon as you stop, or 2 minutes later its exactly the same.

I don't warm my car up for too long - maybe 1 minute or less. Just long enough for oil pressure to be up and that there are no leaks or noises etc.
But then again my car's generally a weekend car and I'm not up at 6am sat/sun :P

Exactly - the idea of a turbo timer is not to spool the turbo down, but to allow the core and shaft of the turbo to become cool enough so that when the flowing oil in and around these items stops flowing, it doesn't cook itself and get burnt.

Im pretty sure the idea of a turbo timer is for MAD-JDM (HKS-san, how I love you) companies to make the megabucks off chumps who NEED tha latest JDM TUNA gear and will pay megabucks for it.

Please explain how idling the engine has any significant effect on a water cooled turbo??? Or indeed why a water cooled turbo needs cooling down any further than it already is?

I'll give you a hint, water boils well before oil cokes ;)

This thread has convinced me to get off my ass and remove/sell the TT, that was installed in my sweet rotary D1 slide wagon by the previous owner in glorious Nippon (thats japan for you baka gaijin).
