Is it?
The car ends up using more fuel running on this stuff though aye?

There's a list on the either Gull or LTSA site regarding what cars can or cannot run it.

Subaru's are a no no.. Early Honda's are a no, but late model are..

Only thing is you will make less power using it. To get the same power or more than regular 98 you need to ramp up the timing.

I've tried it on the dyno and saw about a 5% power drop using the same timing map.

One really good thing about it is knock resistance :). Your stock ECU should up the timing and make use of it, giving you more power. To make best use of this reset your ECU and try and stick to it as a fuel.

So it should go well on a Blacktop then, seeing as they don't even really like the factory set timing with our poo fuels

Ethanol

Postby ax_zino » Wed Feb 11, 2009 2:23 pm

Just remember that ethanol has approx 60% of the energy content that petrol has, so you will end up losing some fuel economy. I rek 98's the way to go, but I would because I import the stuff :D .

Yeah, that's what I heard this why I asked if cars were using more when running on this stuff.

Still 7.5 litres per 100km in a Blacktop suits me just fine.

if you do a search on similar topics with posts from me, you should find the reply I got from toyota NZ about it.

from memory it said something like the import 2zz don't use it, the NZnew 2zz is fine on it.

When I went back to them with matching part numbers for all the fuel components(tank, pump, fuel lines, fuel rail, injectors and a few other bits), they went silent.

havnt had it on a dyno, but i reckon you can feel the difference in fuel aye, old owner ran it on 91 :( i have also cranked the ignition timing to the point where it starts pinking at low revs high load, but OMG did it go hard. since retarded the timing a bit. but it LOVES advanced ignition timing, nowhere near as impressive now

Cranked as in what did you have it set to? I chucked some more timing into my BZ-G and it seemed to go better, but never confirmed properly.

Seen a few times on TS, that Blacktops go best with about 8 degrees advance, as opposed to the factory 10 degrees, as it pulls timing out of it. It's something I might check on the dyno once I get the motor in.

i had to put 91 in when coming back from whangarei as they didnt have 95,

i didnt notice a loss of power or fuel economy, didnt run any worse, no differnece at all,

i prefer to run it on 95 being "higher" octane,

i havent tried 98 or bio fuel hence the reason for asking

i am only getting about 450km out of a full tank and if bio fuel is going to give worse not a lot of point in changing

so if i was to put it in, and reset the ECU would it advance the timiing ?or am i thinking stupid :)

i didnt have it specifically set to anything, i had just put my motor together and i ga`ve it an "ear tune" (advance it, rev, retard, rev, retard till it stops pinking, then retard a little bit more to be safe) we then bridged the ecu termianls to set it properly with a timing light, set it to 10 deg or whatever and it ran like absolute shit, power came in big surges, rough as, jerky, i was lyk wtf, im goin back to my ear tune! lol
