Might need a bodykit to pull it off though

Highly unlikely.

Just bought some 17x8.5 for the front and 17x9.5 for the rear. They come flush with the guards and just miss the struts. And thats on the widebody MR2.
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Widths mean SFA without offset.

Kinda like 1/4 mile times without trap speed and 60ft.

What are you talking about, Al ya doofus. Thats like saying you could get a 13" wide wheel with stock guards on the back of an MR2. With the right offset.

Offset does not change the amount of available space between the strut tower and the guard on a car :P

The sort of offset you would need to run on a 10" wide wheel to keep it under the stock guards would result in the wheels rubbing on the struts (even with adjustable coilovers).

This is my rear fitment. About 10-15mm away from the strut and 10-15mm away from the guard even with my weak offset (+35/+40  ) I'd hate to try and fit a wheel almost 3" wider in there

the only way you could run a 10 would be with a widebody kit and a low offset wheel 10-20p

This is true, but had you done some research you would see that 10.5" wide rears have been fitted to the rear of stock bodied mr2s, with some rolling of the guards of course, a stretched tire and some neg camber :)

Your 9.5" rears with the widebody is far too conservative considering this guy is running 18x10s on the rear with a 37 offset and stock body, tire is a 235/35 :) Allegedly only big bumps rub because of no guard rolling.

Mine are like a 38 offset from memory. Sit about 2mm off the strut and are flush with the rear guard :P

Yeah I was reading on mr2oc.com that you want something like a +20 offset for the rear with a widebody with a 10" rear wheel to just sit under flush so if you get rub you don't crack the kit.
