Oil Cooler Set up

I pretty much have everything stting at home waiting to go in, however after speaking to togue_trueno i'm a bit unsure if it will be sweet.


This is the intended setup:

The issue i need to check if there will be one, is there a chance that oil will drain out? I don't fancy having to build pressure everytime i go to drive it

Wouldn't you want the filtered oil going through the cooler?

if i am reading it right. it looks like oil could drain back in to the sump.





thats how it should be setup if i am right, so you can use the filters anti drain back valve to stop oil going back in to sump, it's also filtered oil as well.

go out of the block, through the filter, out of the filter into the "hot" side of the cooler core, out the "cold" side back into the block.

doesn't drain back to the sump!

Darn, just realized my picture is slightly wrong in that it's not a remote filter setup. The adaptor goes between the engine block and filter

hey mark did you see this thread viewtopic.php?t=63527&highlight=oil+remote

but if you want to filter it first, go filter->bottom of cooler->out top of cooler back to block.

this way only the oil from the line from top of cooler to block will drain which will prob be SFA. and because it is filtered first, teh anti drainback will stop the oil in the cooler draining back.

i think this is only a issue cause you are running the cooler vertically, i'm not even going to worry bout this with my setup. it is the same principle as using a remote setup.

i was under the impression you run cooler - filter - block. this way the filter is the last thing, (thus filtering everything). but the drain back sounds like an issue

Starting to actually get motavation to fit everything up. When i go to mount the cooler core should i be solid mounting it or using some sort of rubber bushes to insulate it to help reduce vibrations from the car onto the cooler?

Yes you should sit the cooler on little rubber standoffs. Ones with 6mm threads sticking out of them would be ideal is most cases.

Sweet, after posting this i spoke to our service manager and he recomended it be best to use cotton real style bushes.

Oldly the Trust kit that I'm basing my setup off solid mounts the cooler

if you use braided hoses don't solid mount it. Alloy does not like vibration.

And a year later it's still sitting in the shed waiting to be fitted.... Fingers crossed it'll be fitted over the next couple weekends though.


But:
Whats the deal with oil changes? Have done some searching on here but netted nothing. Will I need to pull everything apart and flush the lines/core or just replace what ever drains out of the sump and filter?
