Can someone please explain this to me?

Because my understanding of natural selection never seems to have anything to do with the context in which people use it on forums.

How about, they are blocking in the people doing them on an illegally blocked off motorway on ramp and arresting them, just for starters that is.

Stupid people doing stupid things and dieing as a result.

In this case. If all these 'boyracers' crashed their cars the world may be a better place.

May have been suitable if it were the driver that died
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

I wouldn't place the blame on the driver alone.
Especially considering there were 6 in the car.

But I'm sure the driver has died inside.

Probably should of mentioned that it isn't my view and I don't agree with it. The post was to explain the use of the term 'natural selection'
for 'RomanV'.

Natural selection means the strong survive and the weak die. Who's to say these "boy racers" are actually weak?

The fact that they can't hold off until a track day for one.

No that's weak in the mind. Natural selection deals primarily with physical strength.

Tell that to animals that are adapting and changing their strategies (read: mental state and thought process) because their body (read: physical strength) can't keep up

i.e. Natural selection is very similar to evolution

This is what I was getting at.

Natural selection is when a genetic inferiority in a particular situation makes it less feasible to procreate successfully.

If two people were running away from a bear, and one can run faster than the other because they're naturally bigger and stronger, and one gets eaten, that's natural selection.

It's not natural selection when someone hops into someones car for a ride, and ends up dying because the driver was a tard.

If the driver had no natural sense of balance and lost control of the car on account of it and killed themselves, that would be natural selection... And just an unlucky occurance for the passengers if there were any.

I dont understand the smug callousness that is associated with saying it, especially when it's not even in a relevant context.

"Well they were stupid for being a passenger in someones car, they deserve to die, it's natural selection at work!"

If someone deserved to die for hopping into someones car, the penalty for getting caught doing so would be the death penalty.

If they dont deserve to die for it, then why do people act smug when it happens?

It's also natural selection at work when a baby dies from a genetic disorder or heart failure or something.

It doesnt mean it's appropriate to say "Ha! Natural selection!" to the mother.

i left chch 3 years ago and since then it has changed alot, every time i go home i see my old mates and just shake my head. the whole cruising scene has turned to shit...

if these idiots were stupid enough to run from the cops then it was their choice to risk theyre lives, only thing i see a problem with is that they would put innocent people in danger while doing so...

still at least thats one idiot off the road
The four seasons in Australia consist of "$&#$% it's hot", "Can you believe how $&#$% hot it is?", "I won't be in today because it is too $&#$% hot" and "Yes, the dinner plate size spiders come inside to escape from the heat."

No it doesn't.

Humanity's physical state should have given us up to predators thousands of years ago, if not sooner. It is only our intellect that has kept us alive and evolving.

cat007 wrote:i.e. Natural selection is very similar to evolution

Yup, evolution is the logical result of natural selection, among other things. Selected traits that are successful continue on and develop.

Read an article about this in the star times today. 6 people in the car?! So thats one more person than there is seatbelts? Showed a picture of the car. Pretty mangled. Lancer gsr by the looks. Front mount, mags etc.

Again, it's irrelevant, as the person who died was in the front passenger seat.

It wouldnt have made any difference if there was only two of them.
