May seem a little callous but I cant be the only one thinking it.

With a bit of a TRD wish list outstanding should I be waiting for the Yen to take the inevitable dive or should I be more concerned about availability drying up? Will people with local stock be discounting due to the cheap yen or hoarding?

With an older car (2001, 2zz-ge) I doubt anything is still in production but the trouble over there is bound to have some impact, right?

Well there is no question that production and distribution of parts out of Japan will be impacted. There's also a pretty good chance their currency is going to tank. Both factors are going to influence price and availability, I'm asking which way people think it will go, in our favour or against.

um its only going to go up , toyota factory has closed and no date of reopening yet as has nissan and sony , i would buy now while its there , i reckon parts are going to get super expensive shortly .

Why is the Yen going to tank.
The yank dollar just had a massive rise against the yen and the disaster will mean people pulling their money back to Japan. This will send currency up if anything.
Japan economy is massive compared to NZ. Japan's southern ports are still open for business and the companies are only closing for a short period. When they get the power grid sorted I would imagine the Japanese will get back into making money as soon as possible.

Depending on what's on your 'wish list' it's doubtful TNZ will have stock here in NZ.

It's also doubtful that the Yen will move significantly against the NZ$ enough to make a huge difference in pricing.
In fact, it could just as easily go the other way.

It's not clear what parts of Toyota may be operable or not. TRD is really a warehousing setup quite removed from the major factories so they may still be filling orders.

That report is really just talking about the major car and part factories supplying CKD kits and associated parts to offshore assemblers and RORO stock.
TRD is a different plant and operation.

Below is a report from a Car Shipping Co.

UPDATE OF SITUATION IN JAPAN

Vehicles purchased, and shipped from Nagoya, and all Ports south of it, should have no issues, and it appears to be business as usual. There are no reports of damage, or delays in those areas, apart from documents arriving from Northern Auctions.

Most vehicles stored at Ports in Tokyo, should be fine. We have no reports of damaged vehicles at this stage.

The Port facilities may have some damage, but appear to be capable of continuing, albeit in a disjointed fashion.

Vessels will continue to berth, but schedules may be a little delayed.

Tokyo area is suffering serious Power shortages, and so communication is a key factor in your agents ability to continue trouble free. Expect some delays, and try to be patient.

Vehicles purchased from North Eastern Auctions, will have serious doubts as to whether they will ever make it to shipping. One Japanese Agent reports over 200 units purchased from Sendai area, of which they have no idea about where they are, or in what condition they may be in. They have lost any contact with the area.

TRD which is in Yokohama is likely still operational.

I'm glad I got all my TRD bits and pieces for my Supra 3-5 years ago as TRD pricing in the last 2 years has just gone absolutely out of most of us normal peoples price ranges and the discounts just are'nt what they used to be as for me I have basically everything in the TRD catalogue that is made for the Supra and its just a pitty TNZ are'nt doing the deals because the TRD parts are of really good quality and are easy plug n play parts and do really work well performance wise.

Re: TRD parts guess it depends on what you are after, what they had in stock in Japan at the time and where some of their parts are manufactured (ie shocks made by tokico etc).

Toyota like well all manufacturers don't make every bit thats goes into their cars. Outsourcing product by other companies. So where these sub companies are will effect supply as well. Speaking with a Toyota NZ staff member today and he mentioned that there a numerous suppliers that are based on coastal parts of Japan.

One issue I have had with a supplier who's main area warehouse is in Singapore is all the international servers for their stock system is in north Japan. So it's proving difficult to check stocks in this part of the world
