once the A/C pump is removed theres the issue of being able to tension the shorter belt to the power steering pump.

After finding this stolen photo it shows you that the belt after removing the A/C pump will have to run underneath the tensioner/idler.

It would be much appreciated if someone would possibly know where I could find this correct tensioner.

theres not enough room to do that..

What I did was make the powersteering pump adjustable, this gives it about 10mm of 'swing', just enough to slip a 4pk880 belt on.

If your lucky you can find a NZ GTi Corolla which didnt have AC but had PS.
It comes with a special bracket that has the tensioner wheel on it.

But they are damn hard to find. I have one on my car and I had to get it from Aussie.

i did this once
i made up a special bracket that mounts the ps where the ac is

but i think it wasnt lined up very well as the belt had a life of about 3months

i also tried an electric ps pump from an mr2 but they draw shitloads of current and you need an expencive dc motor controller to make them work properly

i eventualy just gave up on haveing power steering

now on my new car the first thing i did was take off the ps (both cars were ae111 bt)

try driving it without the belt for a while you might come to like it....

Or just get a ribbed pulley from another toyota and run the belt around the bottom of it. Or leave the AC pump there

just get the right length belt that everyone uses and just tension it by tightening the bolts on the powersteering bracket. works mint.

thank you very much for all your help guys.

I've managed to get the condenser out no trouble but just sorting out the pump.
did a bit of hunting and it seems as though people just use the belt: 5pk880
which is a perfect fit and no need for the tensioner as touge_ae101 was saying.

phwoar! 38 buks for that belt at BnT!
But might just bite the bullet and go for it

May even see if I can get a discount through Toyota lol.

yeah, that big 6pk or 7pk belt for the new corollas, ha your's is pocket change compared to that

I actually tried that but it definitely turned for the worst!

Will price another belt up tomorrow though I have to finish building this dam trailer, plus buy another tyre and an o2 sensor

if you think fan belts are expensive, make sure you are seated for the price of o2 sensors

haha yeah I know, but have found a guy who can get new ones for 140incl postage so not to bad but Rhys might be able to hook me up with a second hand one as mine is next to useless.

LOL, yeah try AFR sensors on the modern stuff,

Look the same as a 4 wire o2 sensor but they are wideband and run at up to $600 a sensor.

And the long fan belts like on the 1ZZFE's, TGP was round the $42 +,
where Repco and aftermarket were over $100 for a fan belt !!

I have been considering the same problem as above. My solution was to rip out the aircon and build a bracket with an additional idler pulley (grooved) to replace it. Though I'm now tempted to leave it as is.
