3SFE oil filter

Hi all, have noticed the oil light on my 3sfe st202 celica is a bit slow to go off on cold start.

It is due for a oil change and was wondering if it would be worthwhile fitting a toyota oil filter.(currently has a ryco) Have been told factory oil filters hold better oil pressure? unsure weather to believe this or not. factory filter is $30 Ryco is $13 so you would hope there would be some difference? car has done 160k so im not expecting a miricle cure but if it helps its worth a shot possibly?

rycos arent bad filters.

The thing that most affects oil flow when cold is what type of oil you have in it(ie. 15w40 10w40 etc)

Also 3s engines have the oil pressure sensor in the head, not the block like most engines(at least 3sg engines do, not sure about 3sf) so the oil light tends to take longer to turn off.

my 3S-GE celica did that - it scared the shite out of me as i knew what 3S-GE's did when oil was starved

i changed from a ryco oil filter to a donaldson and it helped a fiar bit - was 15 seconds till the oil light went away down to about 4-6 seconds with the donaldson oilfilter

my engine was probably half shot anyway - but the donaldson oil filter did help it seems

Factory filter is $22 from Mark (I1I) TS TGP sponsor. It definitely solved cold start up rattle on high km 20v.

Some after market drain back valves are a bit..... well shit really.
Was very common on the old ryco 191as, but they are well gone now!
386 should be ok.

thanks for all the replies 8)

think i'll give the toyota filter a shot.

Iam using 15w-40. it burns a bit and needs checking every few weeks which i thought is strange, But I used to have a 60km levin bzv and that burnt oil too. have never noticed the celica visually smoking so must be at high rpm only. although it only gets high rpm now and then if passing etc otherwise just normal driving..

Why not try going to a thinner grade of oil at the same time as changing your filter?

I dont know what toyota recommend you use for your motor but my 5sfe gets 10w-40 and the oil light is off in a few seconds from stone cold
