Ray Hartley Motors had the two strap ones they imported, though they were fairly pricey at about $80 or so.

I have a single strap one... Does it no longer comply? Will I have to replace it?

pooze, just had my big extinguisher serviced.

any idea why the change to 2 straps?? only time i have seen singe straps fail is when they were mounted lengthwise in the car.

Just one little thing to point out that no one has said.

If you change from the factory seat then the bolts holding it to the floor need to have marking to prove they are ISO 8.8 in strength (New reg)

I run 2 racetech 1000 in my car which are FIA seats and are only about $600 with alloy brackets - A bargain IMO and I feel safe in the knowledge that they will hold up in a decent off

Not sure sorry, and due to a family emergency I missed the scrutineer training in Wellington last Friday (where I could have asked)

Maybe ring the office and ask Julian?

From the scrutineering training the other night, the single strap brackets tend to let the extinguisher move around too much. 2 straps are less likely to come undone than one.
We watched an in car video of a race car going off the track and hitting a tyre barrier. You could see the extinguisher moving in its bracket as the car goes off the track before it hits the tyres.

Annoyingly mine is less than a year old and cost a bloody fortune as I just paid someone to do who had my car leading upto an event, mine has a large strap and a safety pin and locator on the nozzle end and does not move at all yet is now deemed insufficient.

Not doing an event until next May so have time to sort it.

Have learned that a very important element of motorsport is knowing all the rules and keeping up to date.

Can you not just add another strap?

From memory, and I am not sure what the current rules are (cant find them) I needed a 2kg fire extinguisher or X2 1kg fire extinguishers, I think getting a 2kg or what ever was required was the problem.

with the new sh1tty extinguishers, carry 2 bigboys, or a big and a small.
once they got rid of Halon, you cant have enough firepower in your car.

halon killed fires
powder wrecks cars

Noted. Will try and modify what I have and maybe fit an additional one as backup if I can find a spot for it.

Funny a mate went to the extent of installing one of the best FIA approved full fire systems in the world in his car costing min near 3k and under motorsport NZ rules it is not even passable for a clubsport event where a $30 one from the warehouse will pass. Chur MSNZ :?

So he gets that system because he chooses to get it and spend his money on such a thing, and then also buys a $20 - $30 bolt in job ... that way he has the best of both worlds. A top notch system, and for $20 - $30 and a couple of kg weight extra he gets a compliant extinguisher. There's nothing to stop him using both (or either) systems if there's a fire in his car.

Total cost $3030 instead of $3000 8)

Its a unique and very expensive car that you do not drill holes in and mount a $30 extinguisher.

It sees only track work so its no big deal, he does not need one for track events, was more an example of how MSNZ's rules can be a bit daft at times.

Why drill holes? Just create a bracket that mounts under or over the seat mount (or something like that). I've had a mount like that in a couple of cars now. Took DexGT (user here) not long at all to construct a really nice bracket that was nearly strong enough to pick up the car by!

What if the system failed and he didn't have the extinguisher? You know who would be the ones in hot water if someone was injured as a result. Hence blanket rule I guess.

happened to Hayden Paddon's Evo4 when it burnt. apparently.

So spent all day saturday and got the car from this:

to this state:

So next things to do for immediate future for being able to race:
New rear wheel bearings
New front right wheel bearing
Rear diff mount
Speedo to work
New exhaust flange gasket
Drivers window to go up or down
Dry cell battery and appropriate mount
Modify intercooler mount and pipes so that it tucks it up a bit higher
Rear wheel spacers
Redo the wiring running to the front with real wiring, and fit an isolation switch aswell as general tidying up as it was running under carpet neately before.

Anything else that seems obviously an issue?

I cant see if you have a catch can in there under the bonnet but if you do make sure it is big enough to comply with MSNZ rules or revert to factory piping. From memory if you have a catch can then

Engines up to and including 2000cc need to have a minimum of 1 litre catch tank capacity

Engines exceeding 2000cc shall have a min of 2 litre catch tank capacity

I cant remember if the above engine capacity is pre or post the equivalence factor being applied.
