Re: 1jzgte vvti removing cat

Yeah we figured that was likely to happen. My question about keeping the boost factory could probably have been worded better..

How much of an increase in load on the ceramic wheels and bearings is there likely to be, if the boost was at a similar level but flowing more due to the removed cat?
If ...

1jzgte vvti removing cat

Brother has a clean factory spec chaser with single turbo ct15b 1jzgte. It looks it really good nick, still has factory air intake, ecu, exhaust, i/c etc and runs great. He's in the process of converting to manual including manual ecu.

He's read about people having an issue with the turbos once ...

Ruapuna this sunday - 18th Dec Circuit sprints

Will be taking the car out for circuit sprints this sunday. Haven't been out since Feb so well overdue for a run. I did my first event 2 years ago, have done about 10 since then. Its a great day out, cheap to enter and a heap of fun!

If you've ever thought about getting out to the track this is the ...

Fire extinguisher service/validity - MSNZ rules

At last scrutineering it was picked the fire extinguisher in my race car had been tested longer than 6 years ago. The extinguisher has a tag showing pressure testing date, done before I bought the car.
I've got the same extinguisher for work vehicle which appears to have the date stamped at the neck ...

Racecar 95db limit

AE101 Levin with 3sge
2.5" stainless exhaust with one straight through resonator at back

Car is just over the limit, averaging 96ish according to tester at the track. Canterbury Car Club have been at court over noise levels so they're having to be strict.
Eventually will put a quieter muffler in ...

By climate control I mean is there temperature numbers on the hot cold slide?

Yes it does have the numbers along the temp slide. How does that affect things?

AE111 BZG heater issue

AE111 BZG

The aircon works fine through the whole heat range but with the aircon turned off the air coming out is warm/hot even on the coolest setting.

This happens when the fan is turned on. It also happens when the fan is off and fresh air setting is selected.
My wife got around the problem by ...

Re: 3SGE in AE101 - Rev counter

It's an older link, haven't worked out which yet but I don't think its a G3

Found a Mallory Hyfire 6A Ignition system wired in. Reading through the manual it says it produces a 12 volt square wave, 20% duty cycle.
Are there any cheap available tachometers that can run off this?

Alternatively I can ...

3SGE in AE101 - Rev counter

Bought an ae101 with a 3rd gen 3SGE, link ecu

How much work to get the factory rev counter wired up? Links to any diagrams would be great.

I've got an ok understanding of electronics and engines, but no experience in this particular area

Thanks

Re: Your first Speed event

After 5+ years of thinking of going racing would be good fun I bought a car and joined up to the Canterbury Car Club.

Sitting my licence tonight and hoping to get out for the Pursuit sprints on the 14th. Anyone else heading out?

Rebuilding blacktop head

Standard blacktop dropped an exhaust valve. The keeper notch has worn off and let the valve drop down. Known issue or unfortunate? Is it worth replacing all the exhaust valve keepers?

Pulled the head off. Everything else is in good condition.

Who does the best deal on gasket sets for a head?

Electrics not behaving

A mates honda ascott is having some funny problems. Its an auto '90s something.

When you apply the brakes, moving or not, the dash display does will intermittently do funny things. The engine temp gauge rises fast, and if you indicate, the needle will pulse. The stereo and heater sometimes cut ...

Sick of seeing people bag ideas

It's called a reality check. Best done before you go spending a lot of money. It's been done before and people are offering advice, good advice.

Had a few 11.0's and .1's. Was reasonably consistent except for the one failed launch Wheel spin all through 2nd in one run, still not really sure how that happened even after looking at the video

Track was in good ...

Just take it to a different place.

I made the mistake of going to a cheaper garage who had a coupon in the yellow pages, quoted me $800 to fix things to bring it to WOF standard.

What is a decent RMS figure to aim for? Browsing TM they seem to range from 30rms to 80rms. Is 80rms around the highest you can get, or only average?

Obviously you'l be restricted by standards and price, just as important is to get one that fits your head well. No point spending all that money on a fancy design if its going to move around or feel uncomfortable so shop around for one that best fits you.
