Also I've ordered an OBD2 reader from deal extreme for 25 bucks, I figured its so cheap that I could afford to get it wrong 3 times before it costs 1 Toyota visit...

toyota quoted me 96 bucks to plug a code reader in and see if it works... I cant afford that much money for a yes/no question.

well it looks like your onto it with the ABS stuff. Problem however is that the car doesn't have ABS, so there's no sensor at the hub to draw a signal off to stick into the ABS computer > multiplex > ECU

Guess I need to find some sort of way to imitate the signal, I can just put a microcontroller ...

I'm running the 6 speed box that came with the celica (C60). I was running the mechanical speedo drive from my original aw box but i've now swapped back to the electronic speedo sensor that the celica originally had.

I mostly wired up the diagnostics port today but I've hit a snag.

There are 7 wires on the OBD2 Port.

2 go into the ECU
1 is the power earth
1 is the signal earth
1 is Power from the OBD fuse (I have just used a spare 7.5A fuse)
2 Go to the MPX

its suposed to be getting it from the dash cluster. The speedo sensor in the transmission is connected directly to the dash cluster and that sends a speed signal to the ECU. I'm not really sure what sort of signal the speedo should be putting into the ECO so I will try and run a cable off of it into ...

that's a clever idea. I'm a little cautious about the whole thing though incase the ECM needs clearing, Im not completely sure that the diagnostics tool will talk to the ECM properly yet.

I've just noticed that 2 of the wires on the OBD2 plug go to the multiplex which is the in-car computer for the airbags, lights, heaters etc ...

One thing I forgot to mention. I have the engine check light hooked up. It turns on when the key is at AM2 and turns off when the motor is running, just like you'd expect from a motor running properly. This should always light up if there is an error code correct? Or can you have an error code but ...

Yea its an awesome motor, I cant wait to get it ripping the power properly, its the perfect motor for a little aw11. Removes some of the weight from its rear end and gives it a much needed spike in power.
